Where we work, and what the roofs are like there.

Aspect, shading and panel age vary enormously across the Triangle. Here is what we actually find in each area, including where we say no.

Cary

Big roofs, good aspect, and HOAs to negotiate.

Some of the best solar roofs in the Triangle sit in Cary — large, simple planes with good orientation. The complication is rarely technical here; it is the HOA architectural review, and we handle that paperwork as part of the job.

Apex

New builds with panels already near capacity.

Newer Apex homes usually have a 200 amp panel, which sounds like plenty until you add a heat pump, an EV charger and an induction range. We run the capacity calculation before quoting anything here as a matter of routine.

Durham

Older stock, and the wiring shows it.

Cloth-insulated wiring and 60 to 100 amp services are still common in the older Durham neighbourhoods. Solar conversations here often turn into panel conversations first, and that is the correct order.

Chapel Hill

Mature tree canopy — the honest answer is often no.

The tree canopy that makes Chapel Hill pleasant to live in is also what makes it difficult for solar. We shade-model every roof here before quoting, and we turn down more solar work in Chapel Hill than anywhere else in the Triangle.

Wake Forest

Long rural runs and storm outages that last.

Properties on the rural edges sit at the end of long distribution runs, which means outages here last longer than they do closer in. This is standby generator and battery country, and we size for multi-day rather than multi-hour.
